Recce Pharmaceuticals (RCE) has made further progress in its mission to develop a new class of synthetic anti-infectives.

The company’s RECCE 327 Gel (R327G) has shown promise in treating multiple antibiotic-resistant infections under the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Special Access Scheme (SAS) Category A.

In the initial ex-vivo burn wound study, R327G demonstrated remarkable efficacy against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a serious hospital-acquired infection causing morbidity and mortality.

The gel formulation achieved a 4 to 5-log reduction (>99.99 per cent) against MRSA, making it a potential breakthrough in combating antibiotic resistance.

Two patient case studies highlight the gel’s effectiveness in treating antibiotic-resistant gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections.

In one case, a 70-75-year-old male with a puncture wound saw significant improvement after a single application of R327G, avoiding the need for surgical intervention.

Another case involved a 72-year-old male with type 2 diabetes, where the gel effectively healed a wound and averted the possibility of limb amputation.

Recce Pharmaceuticals is actively preparing for clinical trials across various unmet medical needs.

Recce Pharmaceuticals’ collaboration with Linnaeus Bioscience has provided insight into the gel’s antimicrobial activity.
