Recce Pharmaceuticals (ASX:RCE) is accelerating the development of its synthetic class of potent anti-infectives, and its new Family 4 patent has been granted for use in Australia in FY23.

Between July 2022 and June 2023, the company established an Anti-Infective Research Unit at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and has revealed, through clinical trials, that its R327 anti-infective can significantly reduce SARS-CoV-2 in hamsters.

Furthermore, R327 has received positive feedback in the seventh cohort of the company’s phase one clinical trial in healthy male volunteers, and it has obtained further ethics approval to initiate a clinical trial for diabetic foot infections (DFIs).

Recce also secured human research ethics approval (HREC) to commence phase I/II rapid infusion UTI/urosepsis trials at the CMAX Research Facility, where it recently administered its first cohort.

“This year marks seven years since Recce’s listing on the Australian Securities Exchange, an occasion that gave me cause to reflect upon the company’s remarkable journey so far,” RCE Executive Chairman Dr John Prendergast said.

Dr Prendergast outlined Recce’s strategy for the next 12 months, which includes expanding clinical programs under phase two studies and expanding manufacturing capabilities at its production facility in Sydney.

The company received a total A$4.31 million tax rebate for research and development in FY23, which it has committed to using for the ongoing treatment of antibiotic-resistant infections for global markets in need.
